About Us

Edie Analytics is a UK‑based independent statistics and data‑science consultancy owned and managed by Alan Gordon. Although the business is new, it is built on more than 35 years of experience gained at AFBI, a leading public‑sector research organisation specialising in agri‑food science in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Consultant Experience

Alan holds a primary degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research from Queen’s University Belfast, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing and Information Systems from the University of Ulster.

Over 35 years at AFBI, Alan has worked on numerous research projects in agriculture, food science and veterinary epidemiology, contributing to 160+ peer‑reviewed publications and more than 130 conference papers.

To maintain up‑to‑date knowledge, Alan has completed short courses in areas such as Categorical Data Analysis, Survival Analysis, Multilevel Modelling, Repeated Measures, Meta‑Analysis, Big Data, Time Series, Data Visualisation and R programming.

His statistical experience includes ANOVA, generalised linear (mixed) models, survival analysis, multivariate analysis and modelling of zero‑inflated data. More recently, his work has expanded into data science, including data wrangling and machine learning in R.

Alan has extensive experience with software including Genstat, R (including Quarto and Shiny), Stata and the Microsoft Office Suite.

While his background is primarily Frequentist, he also offers solutions within the Bayesian framework where appropriate.

Alan has been a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society for over 20 years and is committed to promoting evidence‑driven decision making in line with RSS principles.

He regularly attends conferences such as “Big Data Belfast”, “Shiny in Production” and “EARL” as part of his continuous professional development.

In addition, he has delivered numerous short courses and workshops in R, Genstat, Microsoft Office and statistics to AFBI colleagues.
